The Coffee Impact

Many of us start our mornings with a cup of coffee which makes this news all the more exciting to share:

We are happy to announce a new partnership between Equator Coffees & Teas and World Bicycle Relief. Based in the Bay Area, Equator Coffees was the first coffee roaster in the US to become a certified B Corp, solidifying its role as a company that is part of a global movement redefining impact and success in business, while valuing each individual in the supply chain. This is just one of the many reasons why we are proud to be sharing this partnership.

Equator has launched a new coffee, the World Bicycle Relief Blend, that will benefit our work with each bag sold. The coffee is now available exclusively online.

"Equator's spirit & culture is about creating lasting impact, a vision we proudly share with World Bicycle Relief. Every bag of WBR Blend sold will help purchase bikes that will close the distance gap in getting a child to school, a person to work or a doctor visit. Bicycles are powerful.”
- Helen Russell, CEO & Co-Founder, Equator Coffees & Teas.

Equator Coffees mission is to create a positive impact. This core value is parallel to the threads that bind World Bicycle Relief given we believe that our bicycles need to be designed to meet the rigorous needs of our recipients, like for the students at Mahanga Secondary School in Kakamega County in Kenya who received bicycles in July. Before receiving bicycles, girls who walked to school would often encounter boda boda riders, or motorcycle taxi drivers, who would offer free rides in exchange for sexual relations. As one bicycle-riding student explains, “Nowadays I pass them by, riding my bicycle without paying attention to them. I’m independent and confident!” Like the students at Mahanga, the WBR Blend will help fund bicycles for students that in turn help them overcome the barrier of distance and the challenges that arise due to distance.

“We are very proud about our new partnership with Equator Coffees and Teas,” said, Katie Bolling, Director of Partnerships at World Bicycle Relief. “Equator has been supporting our events in the Bay Area for years and it’s wonderful to see the partnership develop into a signature coffee blend. We share similar values with Equator and we’re excited for this opportunity to formally bring our communities together.”
