An exclusive lot of red honey processed coffee from Carlos Barrantes’ La Perla del Café. This is the third year in a row we are offering coffee from his farm and we are excited to continue our partnership with such a quality-minded producer.

The so-called Red Honey method is a variation of honey or pulped natural processing where the fruit mucilage is allowed to dry on the bean. To be classified as Red Honey fruit mucilage is left clinging to the bean after pulping and the temperature during drying must be warm without getting too hot. Because of the high percentage of mucilage and moderately warm temperature, the beans take on a reddish cast during the drying stage. The flavor of this coffee is distinctly sweet and fruity.

We liked the red honey lot so much last year we asked if Carlos would process it for us again. Equator is the sole roaster of this coffee. Although he has been growing coffee for many years, Carlos only established his own micro mill, La Perla del Café, three years ago.

Cupping Notes

Sweet-toned and balanced, with notes of blood orange, hibiscus and vanilla.
