Holiday Blend

We made this Holiday Blend for you; your family and chosen family; your neighbors and your pet sitters; everyone you love and everyone you’re learning to love.

This coffee is a blend of different components from different origins, that together make magic that’s best enjoyed when shared. Because we believe that people, like the components of this coffee blend, are better together.

Origin Story

Multiple producers (Kenya)
Tesfaye Bekele, Michael Omran (Ethiopia)
Kateshi Estate (Zambia)

This year's Holiday Blend is comprised of coffees from some of Africa’s most familiar producing countries. The blend is built around a vibrant and complex coffee from Kenya which helps to bring out the flavors of the blend’s other components. A pair of coffees from Ethiopia contribute flavors of fruit and spices, as well as delicate floral notes. And finally, a coffee from a lesser-known producing country in Africa finishes the blend; this savory coffee from Zambia rounds out the blend by adding subtle herbal notes that complement the other component coffees beautifully.

All the blend’s components were processed using the washed method, where they are pulped after harvesting, fermented, then washed clean of any residual fruit before drying. The various varieties of the component coffees and terroir where each was cultivated, coupled with this processing contributes to the unique flavor profile Holiday Blend possesses, which reminds us of the holiday season.

Why We Love This Coffee

Every year, our Roastery team rises to the challenge of developing a coffee blend fit for the season. Each roaster’s unique approach is tasted, and the winning coffee is crowned as Holiday Blend. Roaster Alex Spishakoff crafted this year’s winning blend - we hope you enjoy it! Alex’s blend is sure to compliment after dinner desserts and inspire many brisk mornings this holiday season.

We then partnered with Mūr by Ayca founder Ayca Kilicoglu to design a custom coffee bag for Holiday Blend and collection of limited-edition merchandise. Ayca is a San Francisco-based designer, illustrator, and educator who is inspired by the repetition, simplicity, and complexity of the human experience.

Ayca's intricate and vibrant illustration brought to life our belief that people, like the components of the Holiday Blend coffee, are better together.

Good Coffee, Better Planet

5% of sales from the 2022 Holiday Blend coffee and merchandise collection directly benefit the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA).

The mission of the IWCA is to empower women in the international coffee community to achieve meaningful and sustainable lives; and to encourage and recognize the participation of women in all aspects of the coffee industry.

The IWCA has over 20 chapters worldwide that seek to tell the story of women in coffee. Each chapter is set up and run by local women to address needs specific to their community. Projects have included: changing outdated laws preventing women from registering coffee in their own names (instead of a male relative), applying for grants for education and health screenings, developing trainings to improve coffee quality and increasing per-pound price, and promoting eco-tourism.

Equator has a long relationship with IWCA, including our own Vice President Maureen McHugh representing on their board for many years.
