Burundi Kibingo Single-Origin Espresso
We are excited to introduce our latest single-origin espresso offering, from the Kibingo Washing Station in northern Burundi. Located in the Kayanza commune, an area within Kayanza Province, the Kibingo Washing Station is operated by Greenco, a company that oversees 13 washing stations throughout the provinces of Kayanza and Ngozi. Greenco has introduced environmental initiatives in the communities in which they work, equipping their washing stations with water treatment facilities and solar panels. Greenco is committed to improving the quality of life for their employees by providing competitive wages and benefits including healthcare. Kibingo works with over 3,500 registered growers who are organized into small groups headed by leaders that facilitate communication with the washing station. To promote farm renovation and maintain quality, organic fertilizer and subsidized coffee seedlings are available to growers.
After tasting this coffee’s sweet citrus notes and flavors of warm spices we were inclined to evaluate it as espresso; the results impressed us. We chose to deviate slightly from our usual espresso roast profile approach, shortening the roast development phase to retain the coffee’s delicate yet balanced acidity. We have found that this espresso tastes great on its own but also plays well in smaller milk drinks like cappuccino and macchiato.
