Colombia El Limon
Due to the high volume and quality of coffee produced there, Huila is one of Colombia’s most well-known growing regions and received Denomination of Origin in 2013 to protect the coffee’s unique characteristics. Located just north of the equator, coffee in Huila can grow at slightly higher elevations than other parts of Colombia, contributing to the sweet acidity and intense aromas the region is known for. This coffee is a great representation of what Huila coffee can be when managed by a knowledgeable and passionate producer.
Located near the town of San Agustín, Finca El Limón is a coffee farm owned and operated by Gabriel Bolaños and his family. Gabriel is a second-generation coffee farmer who inherited El Limón from his father, and he is hopeful his two children will carry on the family’s legacy of producing exceptional coffee. The inspiration for the farm’s name comes from the lemon trees planted throughout it that provide the Bolaños family with supplementary income and double as shade trees for the coffee plants.
Gabriel is committed to producing high-quality coffee that is sustainably grown; he understands that protecting the integrity of his farm’s surrounding environment will help to keep his coffee plants healthy. Systematic pruning and replanting keep the coffee plants’ tissue young and productive, while meticulous harvesting and processing ensure a clean and complex flavor profile. The practices that the Bolaños family have implemented coupled with Huila’s favorable location, climate, and fertile soil culminate in this bright and delicious coffee.
