Colombia Finca Buena Vista Gesha
Huila, a department in the southern mountain ranges of Colombia, is one of the country’s most productive and well-known coffee growing regions. Each year producers from throughout Huila submit micro-lots to be tasted and judged by an international panel as part of the Mejor de Huila Competition. This year more than 350 growers submitted coffee, eager to showcase their hard work and expertise. After several days of cupping, and with many of the producers in attendance, the top scoring coffees were revealed before being sold at a live auction.
We are excited to be featuring this year’s Mejor de Huila’s winning lot from Finca Buena Vista, located in Palestina on the southern tip of Huila. The farm is owned and managed by Leonor Mosquera and her siblings who, since inheriting the land from their father, have obtained UTZ and Rain Forest Alliance certifications through the use of sustainable farming practices and conservation of the surrounding habitat. Twelve of the farm’s fourteen hectares are planted with coffee while the remaining two hectares are forest preserve. This winning lot comes from the first harvest of 1,100 Gesha trees that were planted only three years ago and has all the classic floral and fruit forward flavors that we come to expect in Gesha coffees.
