About Chefs Mary Sue & Susan
Iconic culinary duo Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken may be best known for their Modern Mexican concept, Border Grill restaurants, trucks, and catering, which they've run together for more than 35 years, and Socalo, their new California canteen in Santa Monica. We have partnered with Mary Sue and Susan to offer this single origin coffee to support the Las Rosas Women's Coffee Project.
About the Coffee
Mary Sue and Susan's Socalo Las Rosas Colombia coffee is a single-origin lot from a coffee program called Las Rosas. The coffee is produced by a group of women farmers from Southern Colombia's Huila growing region by the members of the Association of Women Coffee Growers of West Huila (Asociación de Mujeres Cafeteras del Occidente del Huila), whom make up the Las Rosas Women’s Coffee Project. The Project is a multi-organizational effort intended to support the Las Rosas Women’s Group through economic prosperity, social empowerment, and coffee quality.
The project provides access to a transparent credit fund owned and operated by the group’s members along with psychological support, workshops on gender equity and leadership, and political empowerment trainings. Access to these resources, coupled with the women’s expertise and perseverance, creates an environment where they’re able to flourish and produce amazing coffee.
