A Message from Helen Russell, CEO & Cofounder

To all our Equator Customers,

We have decided to re-open our Miller Ave cafe in Mill Valley for contactless pre-paid pick-up orders placed through the Equator Coffees app.

Everyone at Equator shares and appreciates your deep concern for our communities' health and safety. Furthermore, we recognize our cultural impact and our responsibility to model proper care and precaution not only as a purveyor of food but also as a facilitator of communal spaces.

We know that our communities' place their trust in us as a destination where safety is not merely a consideration, it is a promise. In making our decision to reopen in Mill Valley, we would never fathom to offer an experience where we didn't believe we could fulfill that promise. All areas of service that could potentially threaten its integrity have been modified or outright excluded. This includes the continued closure of our cafe interior to customers and the removal of all outdoor seating. Customers pre-order and pre-pay through our mobile app. We have tiger markers on the ground designating the 6 foot distance that should be maintained at all times while waiting to pick-up orders. Customers pick-up from an outside table for a contactless transaction experience.

A limited number of Equator staff are inside the cafe with dedicated roles and remain 6 feet apart for their safety. In addition to typical health department protocols, they also wear gloves and masks and practice more frequent hand washing. Further, staff provides frequent verbal reminders to customers regarding social distancing.

Please know, we have not considered this lightly. Should this prove to be unsafe or unmanageable we will be the first to stop it. Our hope is to serve our community safely and support staff who are eager to support themselves and their families by returning to work.

With Gratitude and Love,
Helen Russell, Co-founder & CEO

To all our Equator Customers,

In response to the international escalation of COVID-19, and the unprecedented need to practice social distancing in support of the safety of our employees, customers and communities, Equator will be closing our downtown San Francisco cafes effective Sunday March 15th. Our remaining Ft Mason, Marin County and Oakland cafes will close at 4 pm, Monday March 16th.

We know getting your coffee and hanging out in our cafes is part of your daily rituals, including my own. We are saddened but more concerned by what is heading our way. So we are taking the hard actions to lead by leaning into our number one value: to protect our people and communities.

If you choose to buy coffee from us at EquatorCoffees.com, we will continue to waive the fee on shipping.

We look forward to when we can all gather together again.

With Gratitude and Love,
Helen Russell, Co-founder & CEO
