About the Beneficiary
Las Rosas Women's Group
The Las Rosas Women’s Group is an association of Colombian women aimed at prioritizing gender equality in the Huila region's coffee industry.
Originally founded in September 2010 as a project focused on coffee production improvement projects, the group became overwhelmed by the lack of credit available to them to use as working capital on their farms. This lack of critical credit, combined with traditional household roles and duties, was weakening their families and so they sought to change it.
Today, the group has over 350 members and focuses on coffee production as a vehicle to drive important change and development in the community, empowering Colombian women to take on leadership positions on coffee farms and gain financial independence.
The project provides access to a transparent credit fund owned and operated by the group’s members along with psychological support, workshops on gender equity and leadership, and political empowerment trainings.
