Origin Story

Café Granja La Esperanza

We’re excited to share this exceptional coffee from Café Granja La Esperanza, a reflection of our long-standing partnership with owner Don Rigoberto Herrera. Granja La Esperanza operates a select group of award-winning farms in Colombia, including Finca Potosí, where this lot was produced.

Founded in 1945 by Don Rigo’s parents, Juan Antonio Herrera and Blanca Ligia Correa, Finca Potosí has been at the forefront of Colombian coffee innovation—introducing new varieties to the existing Typica trees and expanding into several farms now part of the Café Granja La Esperanza family.

Located in the Valle del Cauca region, in the mountains above Caicedonia, Finca Potosí is known for its ideal growing conditions. This particular lot comes from Pink Bourbon variety trees and is washed-processed, resulting in a crisp, clean flavor profile that showcases the farm’s dedication to quality and craft.

Why We Love This Coffee

Sidra is a relatively new hybrid variety, first identified in Ecuador, resulting from a cross between Red Bourbon and Typica. It is known for its distinctive flavor profile, combining the sweetness and body of Bourbon with the vibrant acidity of Typica.

Sidra initially gained widespread attention through its use in prestigious coffee competitions — most notably at the 2019 World Barista Championship, where both the first and third place winners featured the variety in their routines. These standout performances highlighted Sidra’s exceptional qualities on a global stage and played a key role in boosting its recognition and popularity within the specialty coffee community.
