In response to the recent surge in anti-immigrant policies and unconstitutional deportations, Equator Coffees is rallying the coffee industry to take a stand in support of immigrants' rights. From July 1 to 5, Equator Coffees, along with 61 other coffee companies (and counting), will be raising funds to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and its ongoing efforts to defend immigrants' rights across the United States.
The fundraiser will run through Independence Day, and participating companies will donate directly to the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project. Specifically, Equator Coffees has committed to donating $1,500, and encourages customers to amplify their support during the fundraiser. Other participating coffee companies will determine their own donations.
In the words of our co-founder, Helen Russell:
"After seeing this alarming news, we had to act. As a company rooted in community, we’re doing what we do best—roasting and selling coffee—to rally support and raise funds for a cause that urgently needs our collective response. This is about more than coffee—far more than our supply chain, It’s about taking a stand for justice and human dignity, and living the values that define who we are."
As the fundraiser gains momentum, anyone who drinks, buys, sells, and/or writes about coffee is encouraged to support purchase coffee from one of the participating partners and spread the word.
