Origin Story

Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Sacaclí, Cooperativa Escuela Modesto Armijo

Introducing Regenerative Organic Blend—crafted with coffees grown using regenerative farming practices that help heal the earth. This seasonally evolving blend supports a farming method that revitalizes soil health, promotes biodiversity, and combats climate change.

This iteration begins with a fully washed coffee from Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Sacaclí, a non-profit founded in 1994 by producers from the Sacaclí community in Nicaragua’s Jinotega region. The cooperative is rooted in principles of self-sufficiency, continuous improvement, and gender equity. Today, it includes 537 members—93 of whom are women. Their coffee brings a deep, dark sweetness and rich nuttiness, forming the backbone of the blend and offering a steady base for more expressive layers.

To this foundation, we’ve added a natural processed coffee from Cooperativa Escuela Modesto Armijo (PROCAFE), based in San Juan del Río Coco in the Madriz department. Established in 2011, PROCAFE supports smallholder farmers through training, promotion, and market access. With 165 members, including 56 women, the cooperative is a growing voice in the region. Processed using the natural method—dried with the fruit still intact on the bean—this coffee brings a cherry-toned brightness and a smooth, syrupy body to Regenerative Organic Blend.

Why We Love This Coffee

We don’t hold the Regenerative Organic Blend to a fixed flavor profile like most of our other year-round offerings. Instead, we work with fresh-crop Regenerative Organic Certified™ coffees to shape a blend that reflects the distinct character of its components.

This edition is a medium roast, smooth and layered, with notes of dried cherry, molasses, and walnut. It carries enough depth to pair well with milk, yet remains sweet and balanced enough to enjoy on its own.

Good Coffee, Better Planet

A relatively new and all encompassing certification, Regenerative Organic Certified®, combines aspects of both Organic and Fair Trade certifications.

Climate change is disproportionately affecting the tropical and subtropical regions where coffee is grown:

50% of global land area suitable for coffee production may be lost by 2050 due to climate change

60% of coffee species are considered at high risk of extinction

25M smallholder coffee growers are at risk of losing their primary source of income due to declining coffee yields

Regenerative agriculture--a practice of holistic farming where everything is seen as interconnected and vital--can build resilience to mitigate the effects of climate change and protect the future of coffee and our planet. ROC® was established in 2017 to promote holistic agriculture practices in an all-encompassing certification that champions three pillars:

1. Soil Health & Land Management
2. Animal Welfare
3. Farmer & Worker Fairness
