The French Laundry Blend centers on an exceptional coffee from Kayon Mountain Estate in Southern Guji, Ethiopia. Farm owner Ismael Hassen Aredo cultivates 300 hectares of his own coffee while also processing cherries from over 140 nearby smallholder farmers. In a region where labor is often drawn away by precious metal mines, Ismael offers competitive wages to retain skilled workers season after season. This coffee is naturally processed—dried with the cherry intact—resulting in a vibrant, fruit-forward cup that forms the heart of this exceptional blend.

Adding complexity to the blend are two fully washed coffees from some of the world’s most renowned coffee-growing regions. The first is a vibrant, citrusy coffee from Kenya, which beautifully enhances the blend and contributes to its delicate acidity. The second is a coffee from Colombia, which adds depth with rich flavors of baking spices and bittersweet chocolate. Combined with the perfect degree of roast, these coffees create a wonderfully balanced blend, ideal for enjoyment in the restaurants of one of the world’s best chefs.

Equator’s relationship with Chef Thomas Keller and The French Laundry began with a phone call in 1999 when Laura Cunningham, The French Laundry’s first General Manager, invited Equator to present a coffee tasting to Chef Keller and The French Laundry team. At the time, Equator was a young company on a mission to show how good coffee can be. Chef Keller and The French Laundry, who are pioneers in the contemporary fine dining, farm to table tasting menu model, were initially drawn to Equator’s sourcing philosophy.

The diligence and care behind Equator’s sourcing philosophy appealed to Chef Keller, and their shared desire to purchase the best available products and build recipes to highlight them resulted in a natural partnership that has lasted for 25 years. The French Laundry has held the coveted three Michelin star designation since 2007, earning the reputation as one of the best restaurants in the world.
