You may recognize @ChelseaMakes miniatures from our April Fool’s Day Post where she shrunk our Mill Valley cafe into a tiny tiger den that was picture perfect, right down to the very last detail. We recently caught up with her as part of our Morning Ritual series to talk about hiking, miniature, and of course, how she takes her coffee.
In one sentence, what do you do for work?
By day, I’m a Landscape Architect - by night, a maker and miniaturist.
What was your first job?
I worked at a candy store- a dream job! I sampled everything. Twice.
What’s your coffee drink of choice?
Mocha Java pour over with a splash of cream.
What is the best thing in or about your home?
My cat, (and husband). We’ve all grown very close during quarantine.

Is the best part of my day.
Where do you go to be alone?
Out for a hike. Marin has the best hiking around. My husband and I are on a mission to cross off every trail in the county.
What is one thing you can’t live without?
I have three: coffee, chocolate, and an X-Acto knife
If you could spend the day with anyone living or dead, who would it be and why?
My family. With the pandemic, it’s been over a year since I’ve seen them back on the east coast. They’re silly, fun, and always ready for an adventure.
What has been the most rewarding project of your career?
The process of making miniatures is so fun. I wanted others to be able to share in the experience so I created a line of modern dollhouse and furniture kits. Seeing people bring them to life with their own style makes my heart so happy.
When are you the happiest?
I’m happiest when creating at home or hiking around to gather inspiration.
Where is one place in the world you would love to visit next?
To see the northern lights!
How do you relax?
A walk in fresh air.
What is your most cherished coffee product?
The beans! Our set up isn’t too fancy, but we’ve been hooked on Equator since we moved to the Bay Area nearly seven years ago. At this point, everyone else in our family is addicted too.
Who would play you in the film of your life?
No one would watch that. Maybe Amy Poehler? Not because that makes any sense, but because I just love her.

Kind and creative.
